Some current smokers believe they have quit

Nurse practitioners at onsite clinics can help employees quit smoking, which is important considering how hard it can be to kick this habit. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an estimated 69 percent of smokers want to quit, but many are unsuccessful in their attempts or never even try in the first place.
Recently, the Daily Mail published an article which suggested that some smokers may be harboring delusions about their habit. According to a survey by Co-operative Pharmacy in England, 51 percent of smokers believe they have successfully quit, even when they still have at least one cigarette a day.
"Light smokers in particular convince themselves that they have quit but still smoke. Just smoking one or two cigarettes a day has an impact on health and is detrimental to your skin and appearance," said Fiona Caplan-Dean, clinical services manager at Co-operative Pharmacy, quoted by the news source.
This suggests that there may be a need for more awareness programs in the workplace that explain the full consequences of even light cigarette use.
